Hermione poured over the Daily Prophet, her nose sinking closer and closer to the page as the lock of hair that fell progressively into her tepid cup of tea grew increasingly wet.

“Anything good this morning?” Harry asked from the counter, yawning as he poured himself a fresh cup.

“A few muggle ladies were caught unawares by a man with his head on backwards, but the Ministry’s clearing it up.”

Harry gave a little grin as he slipped into his chair.  Hermione didn’t notice.

They sat in silence for a few moments as Hermione read and Harry stared sleepily, eyes so unfocused they were almost crossed, into his tea.

He shot up suddenly, unsettling his chair as he sputtered.

“What is it?” Hermione’s head shot up, her brow furrowed with worry.

“Malfoy!” Harry almost squeaked.  “He’s in my bloody tea!”

Hermione’s worry switched tones.  She was no longer concerned that she was about to witness his imminent death by hidden nargles or seriously lost death Death eaters, but rather feared for his sanity.

                “Sorry?”

Harry motioned violently into his tea, mouthing silently like a dumbfounded fish.  Hermione left her paper in a tented heap and slipped around the table to glance into his cup.  The dregs formed a small blotch of…well…it might have been a head.  And the small clump to the side.  A hand perhaps?  She gave Harry an exasperated look.

                “That’s not Malfoy.”

“But,” Harry’s excitement was visibly deflating.  “I saw him.”

Hermione raised her eyebrows, bemused.  She gave Harry a quick kiss on the forehead and strode back to her chair.

“Perhaps you should stay home today.  You don’t look well.”

Harry grumbled, settling back into his chair just as Hermione reopened her paper with a loud crumpling noise.  She almost heard his back snap to attention.  She lowered her paper to look over at him and saw him with his mouth hanging open.  He goggled, motioning a very tired looking pointer finger at the back of her paper.  She gave him a questioning look and flipped it over.

“No!” she gasped, her eyes widening in unabated shock.

“Yes.” Harry pushed out through his amazement and mounting delight.  “Yes, I’m sure it’s him.  I must have seen it earlier without realizing…”  He vaulted around the table and ripped the paper from her hands, fixing his eyes on a glossy photo of a winking towheaded man.

“Male entertainer!  Just five galleons for the night of your dreams under the watchful eye and…” Harry could barely speak for the laughter pressing to escape, “bite of the Dragon!”

A loud, fast bark of a laugh pushed through his throat and then they were both gone, their eyes threatening to go black with the force of their utter delight.  Hermione let loose with small fits of giggles long after the crescendo of mirth had faded away, and Harry’s face sported a constant grin.

“Perhaps we should invite him over for dinner tonight,” Hermione deadpanned over the last of her tea.

Harry clutched the edge of the table a bit too harshly.

“I dunno,” he grinned, “he strikes me as being an expensive date.”

The remainder of their day went exceptionally well.
