D/Hr 1st Day of Halloween: Sparking

Notes: For day one of dramionedrabble's 12 Days of Halloween.  Prompt: cauldron.  The first D/Hr anything I've written since, like, age 13.  Wow.  Fandom nostalgia.  Oh, and day one was yesterday, btw, so today'll see day two as well.
Summary: Hermione just can't seem to get it right.

                

                 She stabbed at the shallow space beneath her cauldron, willing her wand to ignite.  What was wrong with her?

 

                “It won’t spark.” She hissed under her breath.  Fumes from surrounding cauldrons began to rise, heavy greens and blues spiraling up to the ceiling.

 

                His hand lashed out to snatch her wrist, a stark white serpent capturing its prey unawares.

 

                “What are you doing?” She glared daggers.  He smirked, easing her wand wrist away from the cauldron as he raised his own.  Flicked it.  Sparks shot out and took.  She watched as the perfect flame dipped and shivered, turning the smug gleam in his eyes an opaque blue.

 

                “Chemistry, Granger.  Leave it to chemistry.”

I don't ship Draco/Hermione, but I do enjoy reading fics of that pairing if they're written well. From this you could tell that both of them were perfectly in character just from those 100 words.

“Chemistry, Granger. Leave it to chemistry.”
