Summary: Hermione comes to an interesting revelation.
Hermione sat curled into the corner of the courtyard’s all-encircling bench, head to the stone-cold wall, book propped on her goose pimpled knees. She pulled her cloak tight against the blustery chill that swept in from above, scattering crisp brown leaves across the cobblestones as she looked up to the roiling gray storm clouds above, a white-blond head catching her eye from across the way. A simpering, grotesque, twisted gargoyle leered from the corner above Malfoy’s head. Hardly ironic how similar they looked – demons, she thought, the both of them.
“Alright there Granger?” Draco sneered loudly. “What’s that you’re doing?
“Not as much a surprise as your stunning insult Malfoy – oh look, she’s an educated woman! Merlin but I feel dreadful now. I might even run off to cry about it. And I’ll certainly never look at a book the same way again.” Hermione shot back coolly.
Draco flashed her a glare as he left the courtyard, muttering under his breath.
“Don’t worry dear.”
Hermione started violently, eyes sweeping the yard for the source of the voice.
“I’m up here!”
Hermione tilted her head back, staring upside-down at the gargoyle above her own head. It winked.
“He likes you.”
Hermione scoffed.
“I don’t know about that.”
She ignored the gargoyle’s coy smile and tried to get back to her book, but couldn’t seem to concentrate. Maybe they weren’t all bad. Just maybe.
