Summary: He imagined he could see the stars reflected in his eyes – what romance – but he could not.

“Orion.  The hunter.  Very dependable.  Took me no time at all to find him as a kid.”  Michael clutched Alex closer.  He imagined he could see the stars reflected in his eyes – what romance – but he could not.  He turned his head toward the dilapidated ceiling once more, looking to the small, jagged hole through which the constellation could be seen.

“I’d find the belt first.  Always.  Everyone does.” He traced the holes along Alex’s belt.  Alex’s lips twitched.  Michael drew his hand up to trace them.  Chapped and worn but still loved.  Always loved.  Michael cupped his hands to Alex’s face, smoothing his thumbs along the dips just under his eyes.  Tired but loving.  Michael kissed his forehead, then his lips.  Alex groaned.

“He had no head.  Well.  Still doesn’t, I suppose.  But that’s okay 'cause you do.”  Alex chuckled and Michael ran his hands through his lover’s disheveled hair.

“Hands next.  Hands.”  Michael reached down to ease Alex’s grip from around his waist.  He threaded his fingers through the older man’s and kissed his knuckles.  “One held a bow.”  He held his hand up, flattened out against nothingness and Alex reached up to press their palms together.  “You don’t need one of those.”

Michael pulled their hands down to rest against Alex’s hip and grinned cheekily.  “He wore a skirt.  You might need one of those.”

Alex snorted and spoke for the first time:

“I think you’ve got our roles mixed up this time – you’d look much better in a skirt.”

“Well we’d have to try it out first, to be sure.”  Michael’s eyes twinkled in the darkness.  The night sounds of Sona played around them, but they gave no notice.  Michael looked back up to Orion, high above them, ever-burning, unchanging, elusive, strong Orion.  His smile faded.

“You know I’ve always envied the stars.  They have one thing they’re meant to do and they do it.  No worries.  No loss.  So far away.  Must be nice.”

Alex sighed and pressed his lips to the softly pulsing crook of Michael’s neck.  He too looked up to the sky, and the stars, ages old and light-years above.

“We’ll find a way out Michael.  We have to.”

This is really beautiful. It's so easy to imagine them actually having this conversation.

I wish!

Great to see you writing Michael and Alex again. THanks!
